The Colombian Center for Genomics and Bioinformatics of Extreme Environments – Gebix – was started in January 2008 with financial support from Colciencias – SENA. The Center brings together seven institutions in different regions of the Colombia and includes fourteen research groups. Gebix will work towards the establishment of a platform for metagenomics and bioinformatics with the aim of characterizing extreme ecosystems and doing bioprospection of genetic resources. http://www.gebix.org.co/portal/
